Sirte Oil Company Refocuses on Fundamentals to Drive Growth

Operating a vast portfolio of assets, including an LNG plant, an oil refinery, a methanol plant, a natural gas pipeline, and over 20 oil and gas concessions, Sirte Oil Company (SOC) identified the need for targeted capacity building to ensure continued growth and operational excellence. To address critical skill gaps, SOC engaged Qabas to deliver two specialised training programmes. The first focused on enhancing expertise in oil and gas production for a group of technical employees, while the second was aimed at equipping 60 staff members with the knowledge and skills needed to implement quality management systems and prepare internal audit documentation.

The Situation

As SOC continues to expand its operations, the company recognised that sustaining growth requires ongoing investment in employee development. With complex and capital-intensive activities, SOC sought to enhance the technical capabilities of its workforce in key operational areas. The first need was to advance the skills of employees directly involved in oil and gas production, ensuring they are proficient in the latest industry practices and technologies.

Simultaneously, SOC recognised the importance of improving its internal quality control mechanisms. To achieve this, a separate group of employees needed training in quality management systems and internal auditing processes, with a focus on documentation practices and regulatory compliance. Given the specialised nature of these programmes, SOC opted to partner with Qabas, leveraging external expertise to deliver high-impact training.

Our Approach

Qabas delivered two distinct training programmes, each designed to address the specific objectives identified by SOC:

  1. Advanced Oil and Gas Production Training: A tailored programme aimed at enhancing the technical knowledge and skills of employees in production and manufacturing. The training covered best practices in process optimisation, safety protocols, and the latest advancements in oil and gas technologies. The sessions were designed to deepen participants’ understanding of core production processes, allowing them to apply new techniques to improve operational efficiency and output.
  2. Quality Management Systems and Internal Auditing Training: A comprehensive course focused on the implementation and management of quality systems aligned with international standards. Participants were trained on key aspects of quality control, including ISO compliance, audit preparation, and effective documentation practices. The course included practical exercises and case studies to ensure participants could immediately apply their learning in real-world scenarios.

Implementation

The programmes were delivered over different periods, with each tailored to the needs of the target group. The oil and gas production training involved a mix of theoretical instruction and hands-on workshops, allowing participants to directly engage with practical challenges in their field. The quality management training was more extensive, incorporating detailed sessions on internal audit processes, documentation standards, and best practices for maintaining compliance across various operational areas.

Results

The two training programmes have significantly boosted the capabilities of SOC’s workforce. Employees involved in production have reported increased confidence and competence in handling complex operations, leading to better process efficiency and improved safety standards. Meanwhile, the group trained in quality management is now equipped to implement robust auditing practices, ensuring that internal controls are stronger and documentation is aligned with international standards.

These initiatives have reinforced SOC’s operational foundation, enabling the company to continue its growth trajectory while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency across all its activities.
