QABAS FOR SOCIETY

QABAS FOR SOCIETY
MAKING A SIGNIFICANT, MEANINGFUL IMPACT ON SOCIETY

We believe that businesses are uniquely positioned to drive societal progress and create a fairer, more inclusive future. “Qabas for Society” reflects our commitment to fostering inclusion, addressing inequalities, and empowering communities. Our initiative integrates individuals into our workforce who, while transiting through Libya on their way to Europe, found a new beginning with us. These individuals—hailing from countries such as Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Gambia, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Togo, and Tunisia—represent the resilience and determination that underpin our organisation.

Through this programme, we provide not only opportunities but also stability. We regularise employment, pay Social Security contributions, and ensure equality of treatment for all employees, irrespective of origin. This effort aligns with the broader missions of international organisations such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), contributing to sustainable development and human dignity.

PRO BONO SUPPORT FOR COMMUNITIES

Qabas’ commitment to society extends beyond individuals to the communities we serve. We actively engage in pro bono consulting projects, supporting small businesses, NGOs, and nonprofits mainly throughout Libya. Our expertise in resource management, operational efficiency, and strategic planning helps these organisations overcome challenges and scale their impact.

Whether advising startups on sustainable practices or assisting NGOs with logistics, our pro bono efforts amplify the work of those striving to improve lives on the ground. These collaborations not only strengthen local economies but also create ripple effects that benefit broader society.

EMPOWERING IMMIGRANTS AND FOSTERING INCLUSION

Many of our team members began their journeys in Libya facing immense uncertainty, driven by the hope for a better life. At Qabas, they found more than employment—they found a chance to build careers and integrate into a supportive community.

Our approach focuses on fairness and equal opportunity, ensuring that immigrants and Libyan nationals work side by side as equals. Through tailored development initiatives, we empower individuals to thrive, building both their professional futures and the economic stability of the region.

STORIES OF TRANSFORMATION
Ali Cabdi (Somalia)

Ali left Somalia amidst conflict and economic instability, arriving in Libya after a long and arduous journey. Initially hoping to reach Europe, he found himself stranded in Libya with little hope of stability. At Qabas, Ali began with administrative tasks while we worked to regularise his immigration status and provide him with the support he needed. Over time, his reliability and organisational skills helped him rise to become an office manager. Ali now mentors new team members, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for others who, like him, seek a fresh start.

“I was stuck in Libya, not knowing what to do or where to go next. Qabas gave me more than a job—they gave me a way forward. Now I’m proud of the career I’ve built here”.
— Ali Cabdi, Administrative Assistant

Alfred Jal (South Sudan)

Alfred arrived in Libya after fleeing hardship in South Sudan. With limited options and no clear direction, he began working with Qabas in a junior capacity. Recognising his leadership potential and ability to manage complex tasks, the team supported his growth, providing training and guidance. Today, Alfred is a project coordinator, managing multiple initiatives and ensuring seamless collaboration across departments. His steady income allows him to send financial assistance to his family in South Sudan, who now have access to better living conditions and healthcare.

“At Qabas, I realised I could grow. They gave me the chance to prove myself and made me feel like my work matters. That has changed my life”.
— John Kanu, Junior Project Assistant

John Kanu (Sierra Leone)

John’s journey to Libya was fraught with difficulties, leaving Sierra Leone with the hope of reaching Europe to support his family. Upon arriving, he found himself in a precarious situation until he joined Qabas. Starting as a technician, John’s proactive approach and problem-solving abilities stood out. As his skills grew, so did his responsibilities. Today, he oversees critical operational functions and plays a key role in ensuring the efficiency of our projects. With his earnings, John has been able to rebuild his family home in Sierra Leone and ensure his children can attend school.

“I didn’t think I’d find hope in Libya. I was trying to get to Europe, but Qabas gave me a way to build a life here. Now, I’ve rebuilt my family’s home back in Sierra Leone and can give my children the education I never had”.
— Alfred Jal, Technician

Mica Zongo (Burkina Faso)

Mica’s story is one of resilience and transformation. After fleeing poverty and unemployment in Burkina Faso, he arrived in Libya unsure of his future. At Qabas, he was given a chance to work in technical support, and his analytical mindset quickly became evident. With mentorship and encouragement, Mica grew into the role of a data analyst, contributing to high-impact projects that have strengthened both the company and the community organisations we support. He is now able to send money home to his wife and children, providing them with a stable and secure life.

“I didn’t think someone like me could achieve so much. Qabas pushed me to see my potential and gave me the tools to grow into a role I’m proud of”.
— Mica Zongo, Technical Support Staff

Victor Musah (Ghana)

Victor’s journey to Qabas began under the most challenging circumstances. Leaving Ghana in search of a better life for his family, he embarked on a perilous route through West Africa, eventually arriving in Libya, hoping to reach Europe. Struggling with uncertainty, he found an opportunity at Qabas, initially supporting operational tasks. Over time, Victor’s diligence, problem-solving skills, and natural leadership were recognised, leading to his promotion to a logistics management role. He now sends money back home to support his family and has even helped his siblings attend school.

“Before Qabas, I didn’t know how I was going to support my family. Now I send money home every month, and my siblings can go to school because of the opportunity I was given here”.
— Victor Musah, Logistics Assistant

These stories embody the heart of “Qabas for Society.” By providing not just jobs but opportunities for growth and belonging, we have helped individuals transform their lives. Through their determination and our support, these team members have built brighter futures, becoming key contributors to Qabas and inspiring others to realise their potential.
